UPDATE 6/7/2020: MOONTIDE STUDIO CLOSED - FUTURE PLANS ON HOLD
This is not the news you wanted to hear, nor is it the news I wanted to share. I am closing my studio. My massage practice, on hold since mid-March, will remain on hold for the time being.
As many of you know, Moontide has been a part-time endeavor since the beginning. The margin for surviving as a business is extremely narrow. I simply don't have the ability to maintain the studio space without generating income for months on end.
As sad as it makes me to relinquish my studio, I remind myself--and you--that Moontide Healing Arts, LLC continues to exist, and at some point will find or make a new home. We are all grappling with so much change in our daily lives, in our businesses, and in our relationships with family and friends. I am trying to think of this as a time to regroup, to reconsider my practice and my services, and to transform to meet the current situation.
Thank you for your understanding, and for your business.
UPDATE 4/26/2020: MOONTIDE WILL NOT RE-OPEN AT THIS TIME.
I love my practice, but me laying my (gloved) hands on you right now would not be a kindness to either of us. Massage by its nature is a high-contact activity. I will not endanger my clients or myself by inviting close contact, in an enclosed space, for periods of an hour or more.
Re-opening would require meeting stringent criteria for PPE, client pre-screening, and sanitation practices. This is far beyond normal clean, sanitary operations, as I would need to provide thermometers, gloves, gowns, masks, goggles, hand sanitizer, etc. My feeling is that even if I could provide all those things, and didn't mind the expense, I would be taking them out of the hands of essential medical personnel. The need for such protocols is in an indicator to me that massage should only be conducted for medically necessary reasons, in a clinical setting, for the time being.
I have so many friends, family and clients who are at high risk of serious complications or death if they contract this virus. The potential is for any of us to be an unwitting agent of transmission.
I applaud the decision on the part of many of our local businesses to continue operating on a restricted basis while protecting themselves, their employees, and our citizens. Please continue to patronize restaurants and small businesses who are offering take-out and delivery services. Maybe consider putting the money you would have spent on a massage into the hands of someone in our community who cannot work. So many of our friends and neighbors could really use our help to get through this.
I hope you all stay safe. Thank you for helping keep our community healthy.
